Technically Guyana is supposed to be going through the tail end of the rainy season but for the past few days it has done nothing but rained and I don’t think I have ever seen it rain so much and so hard in my life! Multiple times the heavy pounding of the rain has woke me up in the middle of the night and during the day the rain hits the tin roof of the school so hard that you can hardly hear someone next to you speaking. Because of all the heavy rainfall parts of the area are flooding including the area where I am supposed to be volunteering in a school. I showed up ready to volunteer today and found all of the school kids standing in the road because the wooden bridge going into the school was flooded over with the dirty water from the large drainage ditch. This is a common occurrence here in Guyana and school attendance on rainy days is very poor. The one good thing about the rain is that today was the first day that I haven’t spent every minute sweating. Only four more weeks of training and nine more days until I find out my permanent site placement!
